Lucian Popovici

Ana was good at accounting. Organised, precise, reliable. She worked for the same mid-size firm for two decades and was well-respected. But she had a habit of doodling in meeting margins — swirls, faces, shapes — that her colleagues teased her about.

Her daughter signed her up for an art class as a birthday gift. Ana almost cancelled three times. But on a rainy Tuesday she walked into a studio in the Old Town and touched oil paint for the first time. "Something switched. I genuinely cannot explain it any other way."

She left her job eighteen months later. Today she has a dedicated studio, has exhibited in Bucharest, Vienna, and Berlin, and teaches two workshops per week. Her works now sell for amounts that once took her two months to earn.

George Mircea

Three decades in logistics gave George an intimate understanding of one thing: small businesses were drowning in paperwork that larger companies had automated years ago. He saw the gap but never thought it was his place to fill it.

When the pandemic shuttered his employer and left him unexpectedly free, he started watching YouTube tutorials. "I was embarrassed at first — a 54-year-old watching videos next to teenagers." But he kept going. He discovered no-code platforms and realised he could build what he was imagining.

He launched a basic version to 20 business owners he knew personally. By month three, word had spread to 300 users. Today LogiLink is used by over 5,000 small businesses, has raised its first seed round, and George has hired 12 employees.

Ioana Stănescu

Ioana dedicated her career to intensive care nursing — the kind of role that leaves little room for anything but presence and precision. She was good at it. But after 20 years, compassion fatigue had hollowed her out.

A mandatory mental health leave at 42 became a turning point. During recovery she discovered mindfulness and realised she had the empathy, the clinical vocabulary, and the lived experience to teach it to others in high-stress healthcare roles.

She trained as a mindfulness coach over 18 months while still working part-time. At 43 she launched a programme for ICU nurses. Today she works with 4 hospitals across Romania and has trained over 600 healthcare workers.

Radu Marin

Florina Radu

Florina ran marketing campaigns for global FMCG brands throughout her career. She was skilled, well-compensated, and increasingly hollow. A school visit to a rural community near Bacău — where a classroom had 12 textbooks for 30 pupils — broke something open.

She founded Cărți Pentru Toți (Books For Everyone) initially as a weekend project. Within a year it demanded everything. She left her agency role and went full-time. Three years in, the NGO has distributed 80,000 books and has corporate sponsors across Romania.

Mihai Ciobanu

Mihai spent a quarter-century designing civic buildings across Romania. The camera was always his companion on site visits — a tool to document, not create. Or so he thought.
